Stop the proposed development of Groves Chapel in Clarence Street - save this beautiful building from being turned into yet another Sainsbury's and more unaffordable homes

This petition had 598 supporters

York-based developer S Harrison has agreed terms to buy the Grade II listed Groves Chapel in Clarence Street dating back 130 years and plans to transform it into 26 flats and a new Sainsbury's supermarket. This beautiful and historic building has so much potential and should be reserved for the benefit of the city and its residents. We do not need another Sainsbury's! York is a beautiful city alive with history and culture and this building is part of its heritage. Please sign this petition so that we can send a clear message to City of York Council to let them know that the residents of York are not happy with this proposal.
