Bishop Grandin Boulevard is a major route through the city of Winnipeg, MB. However, it is named after Bishop Vital-Justin Grandin, who played a large role in the development of Canada’s residential school system which aimed to “civilize” Canada’s indigenous peoples. The residential schools have had an intergenerational legacy of abuse, trauma, and cultural genocide.

In light of the racist actions associated with the name Bishop Grandin,  this petition proposes that the City of Winnipeg rename Bishop Grandin Boulevard to an alternative, created in conversation with survivors, Indigenous leaders and community.
