FREE Scrappy
The Issue
Hello my name is Angela McCarty. I'm contacting you in regards to my dog Scrappy. Seven weeks ago my mother was out mowing the back yard. She was moving the mower back into the front to put it back in the garage and my dog accidentally got out the gate. We tried for quite awhile to get him back inside but one of our neighbors called animal control on him. They came out and tried to help us get him back in the house but he wouldn't come inside. He pretty much laid in the front yard. Police were called out and they kept trying to surround him with pokey sticks and rope but Everytime they came near him he would bark, growl, and run to the side of the house. The only time he left the yard was when my next door neighbor came home from work and let his dog out back. Scrappy ran back there to see him. His dog is 14 years old and immediately when he sees another dog he just rolls over on his back. The neighbor did grab Scrappy's collar so his dog could get up off the ground. While doing this one of the dogs scratched his arm. The policeman there tried to get the neighbor to sign a statement that he got bit but he refused to do it!! Scrappy DID NOT bite anybody, hurt anyone, or anything. Finally after trying to get him in for a couple hours more police came to the scene and brought out their tazers. They tazzed my dog in his own yard while laying out front. Afterwards, they escorted us to the vet to get the dart out of him. Begged us to put him down while there but we refused. He didn't hurt anybody.
Animal Control took my dog and he's been locked up for seven weeks in an all concrete cell. He cries because he sees other dogs being let out in the yard or taken for walks. He's not allowed. We hired a lawyer and have begged to get him back. They said he was a dangerous dog because he growled at the animal control and other officers. They were provoking him with their pokey sticks. He didn't bite them. My lawyer contacted the prosecuting attorney. At first all they asked for was proof of home owners insurance on the dog. After the paperwork had been given we don't hear anything more so my lawyer reached out again. Then they stated that the dog wouldn't be put down but I wouldn't get him back. That right there proves he's not a dangerous or vicious dog if they're willing to give him to someone else!!! My lawyer reached out again last week. He was told I was being ticketed for dog running at large and Animal ABUSE!! We still have yet to receive any paperwork, summons, or tickets from Warrenton Animal Control or county. I've included letters from his vet and where we board him if we leave town. He's never been aggressive with any of the staff or other dogs. I've got a one and two year old God children that pull on his ears, tail, and try to ride him. He's never hurt or even growled at them. I'm devastated...my dog follows me everywhere and is a big comfort for me. I'm disabled and have been through a lot of surgeries and health problems. My dog lays next to me in bed and provides me with comfort. We feel this is totally just a power struggle with the city of Warrenton and animal control. Count you please help my lawyer and I get my dog back? He's done nothing to be put through this cruelty for the last Seven weeks and all anybody gets is the run around when we reach out!!
