Make the Boultbee / Jones intersection safer with a 4-way traffic light
The Boultbee Jones intersection and crossing is dangerous.
Cars speed down the hill, city buses stop in the intersection blocking sight lines, school buses turn into driveways and around corners, car drivers use the activated crosswalk lights to dart across Jones and every day, parents hope and pray that all cars stop at the intersection when kids are crossing. Last year, an accident occurred on Jones, just north of the crosswalk when a car pulled out of a parking spot and was hit by a car speeding down the hill.
With multiple schools in the area and a childcare and community centre on Blake street, the crossing at Boultbee and Jones is a very busy one. Parents and neighbours fear it's only a matter of time before someone gets hurt, either on foot, on a bike or in a car, in the intersection. Speed traps and the heroic efforts of crossing guards can only go so far. Now it's time we need the crosswalk to be upgraded to a 4 way traffic light - for the safety of our neighbours and kids.
Other, even less dangerous, intersections in the east end have seen traffic lights installed to make crossings safer. It's time for the Boultbee Jones intersection to get one too.
Urge the city to install a 4 way traffic light as soon as possible!
