On the morning of Tuesday, 14 May 2024, in the parking lot of the Margaret Carpenter Recreation Center in Thornton, Colorado, a suspect fleeing from the Thornton City Police exchanged gunfire with an officer. My son Christian's car was one of the vehicles that sustained significant damages during that shootout. Three city employees found their cars caught in the crossfire between police and a suspect, resulting in significant damage. These employees should not have to bear the financial burden of deductibles for damages incurred while they were serving our community. It is only fair that Thornton City steps up to cover these costs and support its dedicated workers.
