On Dec 21, 2016 the City of Tacoma granted a Noise Variance exception (article # NVAR16-0109) to Manson Construction and/or Greenbusch Group which permits the parties to perform construction on Pier 4 in the Port of Tacoma on an extended schedule of 7 days a week from 6am to 10pm AND to exceed noise limits set forth in Tacoma Municipal Code 8.122.

The granting of this permit has caused the surrounding residents a decrease in quality of life due to the excessive noise levels and extended operating hours of construction.

The signers of this petition are hereby requesting that a) the permitted hours for Pier 4 construction conform to those outlined in Tacoma Municipal Code 8.122, b) additional sound reduction measures be implemented to conform to Tacoma Municipal Code 8.122, c) ongoing audits of the times at which the pile driving is occurring to ensure conformance to Tacoma Municipal Code 8.122 occur, d) regular audits of the sound levels by an independent party occur, and e) a broader audience of residents in surrounding areas be consulted/notified in advance and be given an opportunity to voice their concerns over future matters where their quality of life may be adversely impacted.
