The Story City Pool is arguably one of Story City’s top amenities. The pool attracts many families who are looking for a community to call home. We as residents have financed and supported the building and maintaining of this pool for years, because we strongly believe in the benefits it brings to our community.  While we are thankful for our community leaders and understand the very difficult decisions they have had to make recently, we feel the administration made a premature decision to close the pool for the entirety of the summer. The guidelines recommended by the Governor’s office, as well as the CDC are ever changing, specifically those regarding safe opening of pools and recreational facilities. Many pools in the central Iowa area are planning to open in time, or have at the very least agreed to continue monitoring the situation, discussing possible solutions to safe openings. While the summers often feel short, Labor Day is a long ways away and there is still a long “pool season” remaining. We also feel that in the days ahead, the restrictions will change with each passing day, as they already have since this initial decision was made. We would like to reach out to our community, to hear their voice regarding this decision. We hope that the residents of Story City will regain the right to access and benefit from the public facilities they ultimately support. We understand that there may be risks, as is true in many aspects of life, swimming being no exception. If you would like to urge the city administration to reconsider and change the decision to not open the Story City Pool this Summer and to open under current CDC and Iowa guidelines, please sign.
