We are 7 and 8 years old, we live in Stamford, and we want to change the name of Columbus Park in stamford CT and have the statue of Christopher Columbus removed because he was a bad man and we should not Celebrate him. instead we should name the park Black Lives Matter park, or George Floyd park, or even peaceful or protest park. Another possibility is naming after a local hero or an indigenous hero from this area. We would love suggestions on possible names! Christopher Columbus stole land from indigenous people and hurt a lot of people. He wasn’t really a hero and there are more heroes out there that deserve to be recognized.
