Dear. Supporters,
The eve of a potential final vote is near and the developer is not interested in compromise, so it is time to demand city council vote against the proposed re-zoning.
Yesterday, the city notified me that the developer/seller declined to attend the alternative plan compromise committee and as a result the city cancelled the committee meeting originally scheduled for tonight, 30 September. The city stated the developer intends to submit the latest plan for consideration at the 7 OCT @ 7:00PM city council meeting. This is highly disappointing and clearly indicates the developer is not interested in compromising with the residents of Springboro. The 7 OCT city council meeting is a regular open and public city council meeting. You can attend and you can speak during guest comments. I do not know if the council will conduct a third reading and vote on the issue or if they will table it for another time - I have been advised we will find this out during the meeting as it is the council's decision.
You can find a DDN article summarizing these latest events here. In it, you'll see that the developer is attempting to control the narrative by stating there wasn't a clear opposition leader to represent everyone thus he had to pull out. Let's be crystal clear: The meeting was created and organized by the city. The city selected the representatives for the committee, with no input from the opposition, but those in opposition that were selected were eager to attend and attempt to find a compromise. This issue is not about one leader, it is about an entire community that opposes the changing of the existing R-1 zoning to a zoning that increases density of dwelling units to up to 4.0 times that of surrounding neighborhoods while affecting the character, congestion, look and feel of the city. At its root, this is a zoning issue that will lead to impacts to the city that over 2000 Springboro residents oppose.
City council, as our elected leaders, should be listening to the residents and directing the developer to make the necessary changes to unite the community and protect the welfare of the residents. It is time to demand for your elected leaders to lead. It is time for our leaders to represent the wishes of their constituents: find real compromise or reject the re-zoning/plan.
Keep fighting. Write, call, and visit city council and the mayor. Stay united and don't waver. council@cityofspringboro.com , mayor@cityofspringboro.com, 937-748-4356.
Please attend and plan to speak at the 7 OCT council meeting at 7:00 PM at the city building. Every action and every voice counts.
Thank you for your support!
