Help save locally owned sports facility "World Cup Indoor Soccer" where 1000s of kids play
The Issue
World Cup Indoor Soccer in South San Francisco has been home for 1000s of kids, adults and soccer lovers of all ethnicities for the past 20 years. About 300 people come in and enjoy this establishment every day, all year around.
Program include + Kick start program for kids ages 2 to 5. + Women over 30 (where the oldest participant is a 78 year old woman). + Coed leagues with 10 teams that is popular with young men and women. +Midnight soccer for south city high school on friday nights where players pay only $5 for two hours of soccer (10 pm to midnight).
The Issue:
The business is owned by Herb Martinez, a great family man, who has love for the sport of soccer and the community. His rates are 50% less than the market because he believes in the mission of making soccer a life skill. The building he's been operating the business in for 20 years changed ownership and the new owners' have hiked up his rent by $10,000/ month, which will force him out of business in 3 months.
Solution:
I would like your support to petition the Parks and Recreation Dept, City of South San Francisco to take over the facility and /or pickup the rent so that the facility can continue to operate.
Why do I care ?
I've been playing here for the past 15 years, and see the positive energy and effect it has on young kids. About one year after they opened, an SSF Police officer reported that gang violence had dropped drastically since we opened and he said this place is great, and it is. In our facility people from all backgrounds have something in common, soccer, and I do believe South City is friendlier place because it. In today's negative political climate we need to preserve these local business that spread communal love and well being.
