According to the humane society of the United States, about 2.4 million healthy, adoptable cats and dogs—about one every 13 seconds—are put down in U.S. shelters each year. More people than ever are renting apartments or houses and are often times prohibited to have pets. If each landlord was required to allow pets, because they are indeed part of the family, then it is hypothesized that the number of pets euthanized each year would decrease dramatically.
