I am the crazy pig lady! We started our journey with Tofu, a pink colored PET  mini pig. We then rescued two PETmini piglets from bad situations later. Tofu has a brother and a sister now- Ink and Butters. They are all indoor/outdoor pets. We jokingly call them air conditioner pigs. They enjoy their pool, popsicles and air conditioner on hot days. We have had pigs in our lives for almost 3 years now. 

Yesterday we received a certified letter from the Deputy Planning Director in Shelbyville, IN. To our surprise the letter states we are in violation of an ordinance prohibiting SWINE and FARM ANIMALS within city limits. 

I called and spoke to the gentleman who drafted the letter, he was kind and informative. When I asked what brought this on he stated, a neighbor saw one of the pigs and made a complaint that we had them. I asked if there was a reason, such as noise, smell, or somehow effecting their daily lives. He said no, much to my surprise. We have lived in our home for almost 17 years, and had pigs for the last 3 years. No one has ever complained, quite the opposite. The neighborhood kids love to watch them graze in our fenced back yard. How could someone be so heartless to complain about a PET that is not effecting their daily lives? 

I am asking for you to please sign my petition to help me change the ordinance within the City of Shelbyville to reflect that pet mini pigs are not farm animals/livestock/swine. They are pets, and should be treated/regulated the same as a dog or pet. Thank you for your support!
