In your own words, please express your desire to keep this historically significant site as close to its natural and rustic state as possible. Feel free to mention keeping the road narrow, maintaining a gravel surface, preserving existing trees and vegetation.
ATTEND THE 1/20/15 CITY COUNCIL MEETING: This will be an extremely important meeting in determining the future of the Log House Landing. The Council will hear the recommendations of the Special Advisory Committee and will decide whether to follow these recommendations or pursue other more developed versions. The City Council is likely to make final decisions about the Log House Landing at this meeting. It is critical that the City Council hear from the people and understand that there is continued support for minimal improvements. Last summer, over 550 petition signers relayed the message that, “This is a treasured natural site - do the minimum to fix any water quality issues, but leave the road and landing as rustic and undeveloped as possible.” We want the Council to know that there is still a very strong public desire for a restrained approach. Please attend this meeting to show your support, and send an email to the City Council and Planning Commission this week.
UPDATE: Progress has been made. The City Council appointed a Special Advisory Committee to research options and make alternative suggestions to the original City plan that would spend $400k to significantly alter, widen and pave Log House Landing. Go to the following link to learn about the appointment of Advisory Committee members:
The Advisory Committee has met a half dozen times and recently requested the assistance of Washington County to analyze design options. The Country engineers have reported that a scaled down gravel road is viable. They are currently working on an expedited time-line to develop several options (including a narrow gravel road option) for the committee to consider in early January. It is our hope that the Advisory Committee will decide to recommend a narrow gravel road option. The Committee is scheduled to finalize and present their recommendations at the January 20th City Council meeting. IT IS CRITICAL TO HAVE AS MUCH VISIBLE COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT AS POSSIBLE AT THIS MEETING. Hope to see you there!
