ProjectPRIDE says: Sarasota LGBTQ+ community demands representation! We are proposing a substantial rainbow crosswalk at a major intersection (Bayfront x Main). A crosswalk of this proposed size will command national recognition, encourage visitors to a new tourist attraction, and of course spot light our city as an LGBTQ+ friendly destination.

We believe that this is an essential feature for our city. Not only will it be a huge step forward for LGBTQ+ representation in Sarasota, it will also bring a safety feature to a highly pedestrian populated area. This brightly colored crosswalk will command attention to the roadways for drivers and pedestrians alike, which will have drivers slowing down and paying attention to roadways. All of these details will add to a safer location and a safer Sarasota.

Major cities across the U.S have spearheaded similar projects. Dallas, Texas is in the process of installing TEN rainbow crosswalks. As well as Phoenix, Atlanta, and Maine to name a few. And these are not small slivers of roadways, these are substantial four-way intersections!
