On March 25, 2020, the much-loved Ice Station Valencia in Santa Clarita, California announced they are permanently closing effective immediately:

The closing of the ice rink represents a significant loss for our local youth and their families. The Ice Station is a 93,000 square foot, three-sheet ice facility that has served the city of Santa Clarita for 20 years. Over a million people enter this facility each year.

The rink hosts thousands of local residents and their families in programs, including ice hockey; figure skating; curling; sled hockey; speed skating; broom ball; learn to skate; public skate; group lessons; individual lessons and so much more.  The largest program is hockey with teams from over 7 leagues calling the Ice Station home, including Valencia Flyers Junior A team (WSHL);  Valencia Flyers SNAP hockey team (American Special Hockey Association - AHSA), https://snaphockey.org/snap-flyers/; West Ranch Hockey Club - Varsity & JV (Los Angeles Kings High School Hockey League - LAKHSHL); Bishop Broncos - JV  (LAKHSHL); Valencia Flyers Youth Hockey (SCAHA); Valencia Sled Hockey; Valencia Knights; In-house youth and adult hockey leagues and the in-house high school hockey league.

The Ice Station is also the home rink for the Tri-Valley Figure Skating Club. The rink offers practice sessions for figure skaters of all skill levels to work on their jump, spins and programs. Learn-to-Skate programs introduce new students to the sport of ice skating and cultivate a love of skating in a fun environment.

The rink also hosts several tournaments and ice skating competitions and shows every year that bring in thousands of people from out of town, which contribute to our local economy by way of restaurant, shopping and hotel revenue. Also contributing to the economy is the filming revenue the Ice Station brings to Santa Clarita.  Countless birthdays have been celebrated in the Ice Station and the camps have provided a cool place for kids to spend their summers.  The Ice Station has truly been a home away from home for so many kids over the past two decades, giving them a safe place to congregate with their friends.

Thousands of kids are devastated right now with the closing of their place to forget all their troubles and pursue their passion.  The undersigned of this petition ask the City of Santa Clarita and the Los Angeles Kings to ensure the ice does not leave Santa Clarita.  We ask these organizations to purchase and operate the rink and continue to bring joy to thousands in our local community.  It will not be Awesometown without ice! Thank you for your support!
