Repair the damage at Mt Tamalpais Cemetery

The Issue

The current state of Mount Tamalpais Cemetery is disgraceful. Weeds, Scotch Broom, Gopher holes, Headstones buried, and no watering of the grass. Many have contacted the management of the cemetery and gotten nothing but excuses. Some of us live out of state so it is difficult to handle this. The cemetery by state regulations must maintain the cemetery. There are complaints already filed with the state and are going through the investigation process. We understand with the drought watering the grass with city water is restricted, but Marin Water District has a reclaimed water program that they can use if they provide a tank truck and have the driver go through a short training. With that said it does not leave any excuse for not weeding and removal of the Scotch Broom that can overtake an area quickly. The control of gophers can be done by placing perches for predator birds and Owl houses. The repair of the buried headstones could also be done by the ground persons. We understand that backhoes have to be used to open up gravesites, but not repairing the tire tracks from driving over headstones is unacceptable. We are just asking Mt Tamalpais Cemetery to do what they are required to do, especially since they are still selling burial plots and charging for perpetual care. There are hundreds of people that have loved ones here that paid very high prices to be buried here that deserve better than what is being given to them. If the State or local officials cannot get a resolution to this, we will be forced to look into starting a class action lawsuit to get a resolution.
