Every summer, the San Marcos River is flooded with tourists and tubers who pay very little respect to the environment. Illegal littering, illegal dumping, and illegal environmental mutilation wreak havoc on habitats and ecosystems, leaving the terrain susceptible to illness, invasive species, species loss, and an increase in carbon footprint. In this critical juncture of human history, we must begin to address the tangible, fixable aspects of environmental degradation, global climate change, and the conditions we leave for our future generations; we have the power to act now, and act we should.

In this petition, I ask for your support in demanding that the cities, towns, and counties upon the borders of the San Marcos River begin to take immediate action to curtail the infestation of irresponsibility and apathy, through measures, such as but not limited to, fining polluters and litterers, requiring bag-searches to enforce county regulations, fining tubing businesses for customers polluting and littering, banning repeat offenders, and instituting regular time periods of environmental restoration where entry into the waters is prohibited.  

There is an old saying: You are what you leave behind. I ask what it is we, as Texans, wish to leave behind as our identifying legacy: disrespectful trash or natural beauty? Thank you.
