Support San Jose Gurdwara's street renaming to Gurdwara Avenue
The issue
Dear Friends
Sikhs have been making significant contributions to California since the1890s creating a deep relationship and history with the State. The San Jose Gurdwara (Sikh house of worship) has applied for the renaming of the street to Gurdwara Avenue. To do this, we need Sikhs and friends to support the renaming. We request you to stand with the Sikh community, as we do with other beautiful diverse communities of San Jose and the Bay Area. Please sign the petition, add your comments, and share with others to support too! For more info please go to http://bit.ly/2d9xIlu.
This name change is important to the Sikh community and to the City of San Jose. Since the 1890s, Sikhs have made significant impact in farming, technology, transportation, politics etc. Take for a example, Dalip Singh Saund, first Asian and Sikh American elected to Congress; The Father of Fiber Optics is a Sikh American, Dr. Narinder Kapany, the largest Raisin Farmer is a Sikh, and the list goes on. SIkhs have taken pride and responsibility to serve California, San Jose, and Bay Area in may wyas such as caring for the elderly and youth, low income, homeless, and less fortunate residents. San Jose is home to Sikhs like many other diverse communities.
It's an important resource for Sikhs near and far, young and old, and many non-Sikh residents that rely on health- wellness, community kitchen resources etc. It is the largest Gurdwara outside of India and all of the Western Hemisphere. It has become a San Jose and Bay Area landmark for Sikhs, Non-Sikhs, and Tourists from all around the world. It has put San Jose on the global platform!
There is only one address on this part of the street, that is San Jose Gurdwara. The portion of the street was built for the construction of the Gurdwara and by the Sikh community. Also, this included the funding for additional lights and walkways to benefit the overall Evergreen community. There are many streets that represent and reflect the diversity of the Bay Area like Church, Bishop, Cesar Chavez, Santa Clara, etc.
We are making history and look forward to your support!

Bay Area Sikh Community and San Jose Gurdwara Sangat
