Support Bright Futures in Critical Mentoring Services for At-Risk Youth

For 15 years, California Community Partners for Youth (CCPY) has changed the lives of countless at-risk youth in San Jose. CCPY has reduced gang violence, theft, and youth incarcerations, making San Jose a safer place to live. CCPY has helped youth realize their goals to do better in school, have better relationships with their families, overcome addictions and grow personally. The CCPY Step Up and Step Ahead programs have been effective in cultivating a healthier and happier society. The city of San Jose and other benefactors have stood behind the work of CCPY, recognizing the effectiveness of the program.
This summer, CCPY is closing. Founder Jeff Bornefeld has retired and other organizational and financial challenges have caused CCPY to close it's doors. However, what we have left is an extremely gifted and talented group of trained volunteers and youth who's lives have been changed by the program. We are committed to continuing these critical mentoring services to at-risk youth that CCPY started. On this foundation, we have come together and created the BRIGHT FUTURES Program, operating under Center for Training and Careers in San Jose.
The questions that the City of San Jose will ask are:
"Is the community really backing this organization and their mission?"
Because without community support, we can't do the work that we do.
They will also ask "We know the CCPY Step Up and Step Ahead programs were effective. How will we know that the program won't change and become less effective with these organizational changes?"
The purpose of this petition is to answer these two questions.
1. Yes, Bright Futures and our mission to help at-risk youth is supported by the local community.
2. Every staff member, volunteer (adults and youth), is committed to keep the integrity of the Bright Futures program to match the work of CCPY in previous years. Depending on our budget, we may be able to support more or less youth, but we will not compromise the quality of the work, which has proven with time to effectively cause positive change.
Please write a note to express your support of Bright Futures. Both adults and youth may show support, since this community relies much on committed youth as well as adults. You may also add if there is a specific skill, contribution or expertise you would like to personally dedicate to supporting Bright Futures. Thank you for making San Jose a safer and happier place.
