Preserve neighborhoods, sense of community, street level urban fabric, historic buildings, walkability, architectural diversity, and investment in redevelopment.
Mayor Kevin Faulconer City of San Diego
Council Representative District 3 Todd Gloria
Please preserve our neighborhoods, sense of community, street level urban fabric, historic buildings, walkability, architectural diversity, and investment in redevelopment by stopping demolition for parking lots. The City has invested millions of dollars in planning and redevelopment to create revitalized, walkable, and safe neighborhoods. Some property owners choose to profit from such public and private investment by demolishing attractive and useable buildings for the lowest and most inactive use until they sell. Such behavior is parasitic and undermines efforts to revitalize neighborhoods. The City has been a passive partner in allowing such demolitions by removing historic designations, granting "temporary" parking lot permits when there is no identified replacement development, and failing to give the public adequate notice of hearings. It is clear that an emergency ordinance or moratorium on such demolition and associated parking lot permits is necessary. The signors of this Petition request that you support this remedy.
