Candace Ray started this petition to City of Salisbury and

Animals Lovers Unite!
Geese maybe a nuisance to some locals but they are what makes Salisbury unique. They are are mascot. We have lots of water and water attracts wild fowl.  I am asking that we find a solution that is better than gassing 400 molting geese and their chicks and feeding possibly diseased meat to our shelters.

During the late -night hours in early July 2019, when geese are naturally molting and can't fly, just under 400 geese were rounded up and captured.  (babies included) They were killed with carbon dioxide then taken to a processing plant so the meat could be taken to food shelters.  Is that meat even safe to eat? I have found no source that states it is safe for human consumption.  In addition all animals must be disease free prior to death before you can consume it. What precautions were taken?  As of yet I have not found a single source who is willing to answer these simple questions and who actually determined that this was a health issue.

We love our Geese! This must never happen again.  We need to take measures to control the population without this cruelty.  Any animal lover would be horrified to find out that any animal was rounded up with their babies and killed with carbon dioxide.

For documents showing that carbon dioxide death is indeed NOT humane read the following

We want someone from the City of Salisbury or anyone involved in the decision making to speak up and be held accountable for this cruel decision and to form a committee that will monitor our geese and make humane decisions moving forward.  We want humane options not slaughter by suffocation performed in the dead of night.   THIS MUST NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN.  By signing this petition you are letting the City of Salisbury know that we have a voice and we will be heard.
