Ban Annual Fishing Rodeo/Fishing From Lake Spring Pond Unless Salem Takes Proper Steps To Ensure The Safety Of The Ducks On A Daily Basis

Each year the City of Salem in Virginia has an annual fishing rodeo at the duck pond. Following the fishing rodeo, they allow children to fish at the pond. By allowing fishing, this leaves trash, fishing hooks, fishing lures and fishing lines in the water that becomes harmful to the water fowl that inhabit the pond. Salem has no act in place to ensure that the debris is cleaned up daily. Each year the ducks and geese are found with fishing lines with weights wrapped around their legs causing them to be crippled and hooks in their beaks. The ducks also get tangled up in fishing lines that are stuck in the water.
Since Salem has taken no act to protect the safety of the environment, I am asking people to sign the petition to present to Salem. My goal is to ban the fishing rodeo and fishing from the duck pond unless they take a serious step in making sure the pond is kept safe.
