On June 2, 2020 Raleigh City Councilman Saige Martin (District D) gave a very derogatory and community dividing statement on the recent protest and riots in the City of Raleigh.
Martin directly attacked and accused the Raleigh Police Department of misconduct and attacking peaceful protestors and lives lost at the hands of RPD, he did not state sources, simply made a blanket statement. He stated he walked with the protestors til the evening hours but commented on events that happened in the later hours of the night when the riot was at its peak. Councilman Martin has yet to our knowledge participated in a ride along with RPD. 
This was a direct attack on an entire Police Department. The city council makes policy and procedures and determines funding that directly affects Raleigh Police Department, he is not able to be unbiased and make fair - unity building decisions based on this written attack on the Raleigh Police Department. For these reasons we ask for his resignation, an apology would not be acceptable.  We need to come together during this time and not allow the misuse of someone’s political position to widen the divide between police and citizens. We need leaders who see our city as a whole, not blue vs black.
