The dog park on Shaughnessy Street has been closed for over a month. This is one of the only dog parks with access to some forested area for the dogs to run. It is the biggest park in Port Coquitlam and the only park the provides a shaded area for the dogs to run. Many people are within walking distance to this park and are not able to walk to the other smaller parks as they are too far. This leaves no park or area for one’s dog to have some freedom off leash. 

The other parks available are simply an open gravel lot on a hill with no trees, and a wood chipped muddy area located by Lions Park. These are small parks and are overcrowded due to the closure of Shaughnessy. This makes it challenging to social distance and keep everyone safe. 

We are asking the city to reopen the Shaughnessy dog park immediately.
