Fox Chase Recreational Center is a community center, and the community was not given the opportunity to vote on the decision to change its name, and therefore should be heard.
The city of Philadelphia through Councilman Brian O'Neill has elected to change the name of the rec center to: Daniel Sweeney Recreation Center. With all due respect to Dan Sweeney the fallen fire fighter and all fallen officers and servicemen, I agree with the Fox Chase Rec Advisory Council's proposal to name one of its baseball fields in Dan Sweeney's honor, just as they have named one of its hockey rinks in honor of fallen fire fighter Captain John Taylor. My husband and I were proudly born and raised in this great Fox Chase community, my husband and many of our friends still alumni soccer members. I hope that the Fox Chase Rec center will continue its proud legacy and its name will remain a proud reminder of this great community for generations to come. An Advisory Council meeting will be held Wednesday October 17th at the Rec center which will be opened to the public, and we welcome your voice.
