Stop Hoffner Avenue Apartment project

Stop Hoffner Avenue Apartment project

The Issue

Stop Construction of a 348-Unit Apartment Building on Hoffner Avenue

We, the undersigned, Conway/Belle Isle residents and/or property owners, respectfully petition that the city not approve the proposed annexation of 5001, 5051, 5053, 5121, and 5147 Hoffner Avenue to construct a 348-unit apartment complex.

The influx of population that the 348-units would attract is overbearing on the community’s infrastructure; including but not limited to:

1. Saturation of street traffic: Traffic is already too dense and the complex would add 600+ cars to local roads and would definitely decrease safety for our children and other pedestrians. Conway is already experiencing issues with the Hoffner Avenue and Conway Road intersection, as well as heavy traffic on Conway Road.

2. School overcrowding: The schools that would be zoned for the proposed apartment complex are already near capacity. Therefore, impacting the student-teacher ratio.

3. Drainage issues: The complex would be high-density building on a low, wet, poorly-draining property.

4. Consistency of architecture for area and surrounding neighborhoods: Such high-density complex is not consistent with surrounding neighborhoods which are primarily single-family homes or low volume commercial.

5. Environmental concerns; Two nesting Bald Eagles near the area of the proposed development. Along with other possible endangered species.

While we are not opposed to growth or development of this area, we want smart growth for our community. We ask that the developer adhere to the current county zoning requirements.

***We need to ensure our voices are heard! Please attend the City Council Meeting, where Commissioners will be voting on the proposed project ~ December 9th at 2:00pm. 400 S Orange Ave, City Chambers 2nd Floor.  Wear a RED shirt!!!

You can also send your concerns in email to the Mayor and City Commissioners, who will vote to accept or reject this project (buddy.dyer@orlando.gov, jim.gray@orlando.gov, tony.ortiz@orlando.gov, robert.stuart@orlando.gov, patty.sheehan@orlando.gov, regina.hill@orlando.gov, samuel.ings@orlando.gov)
