For the past 4 -5 years the Hyde park skate park has been a homely place for people to come together and ride. It has brought together a lot of people and has given kids and adults a place to feel safe and practice their sport. Everyone who enjoys the park is very grateful for the park and we try to take care of it ourselves the best we can

We think that a great addition to the park would be to install some overhead lights so people can enjoy the park for more hours of the day. Not only is it hard to find time to skate with the limited amount of day light during the colder months, some people also have work schedules that often make it hard to access the park during daylight hours. By adding lights to the park we can help more people spend time at a the skatepark. 

In addition to helping those who work awkward schedules I believe that lights would help keep younger kids from having to skate in unsafe places while it’s dark. There’s too many stories of young skateboarders skating at night and having unsafe encounters with “sketchy” individuals. 

Overall we ask help from the city, the community, and anyone else who can support our cause to installing lights for our beloved skatepark.
