We are residents of Newton who support the mixed-used plan for the Austin Street parking lot. We believe the project will benefit not just Newtonville but the whole of Newton, by creating 68 units of safe, convenient, car-optional housing, retail space, and public gathering places, plus enough parking for current and future use. The Austin Street project will be the culmination of more than eight years of study and collaboration among diverse Newton stakeholders, and a model of the kind of thoughtful, people-friendly, place-sensitive development called for in the 2007 Newton Comprehensive Plan.
