WHEREAS there is now a concerted effort underway to petition the City Of New Haven to remove the Columbus monument and

WHEREAS the popular but false perception that Columbus was a unique force for evil is based on shoddy translations as well as propaganda perpetrated in Columbus's own day by his political enemies, especially Francisco de Bobadilla and Nicolás de Ovando and

WHEREAS the aforementioned politicial enemies were themselves responsible for the most frequent charges leveled against Columbus and

WHEREAS Columbus is himself a figure of pride for Italians, Spaniards, and Catholics and

WHEREAS Columbus made a unique contribution to civilization and world history without which these United States and the City of New Havenwould not exist

IT IS HEREBY PETITIONED that any and all petitions to destroy or remove the Columbus monument from its present location at Wooster Square be disregarded as based on ignorance and bigotry, and the monument itself should be protected and guarded from acts of vandalism removal or destruction. Important to note: The City Of New Haven is the Birthplace Of the Knights of Columbus a Catholic Charitable Organization Worldwide!!
