The issue

Blue Cross are seeking council permission to build a three story facility with a basement carpark in what is currently open green space with a well-used bike/walking path. Construction of this facility will negatively impact everyone use this path. After construction is completed the current bike path will be replaced with a boardwalk which is also the main entry access to the entire facility. Sharing a path between aged residents, facility visitors and staff, pedestrians, casual cyclists and commuter cyclists leads to safety concerns for all path users. Blue Cross have also stated that facility staff and visitors will be able to park in Anthony Drive, Betty Court and Regent Street. This will have a negative impact on traffic in the area, and has safety concerns for any driver, pedestrian or cyclist who passes through or by the corner of Anthony Drive, Waverley Road and Regent Street. We ask Monash City Council and VCAT to reconsider the appropriateness of constructing a facility of this size and nature in this beautiful location.
