The US Army Corps of Engineers have proposed a $4,500,000,000 (BILLION) project to build extensive flood barriers around the city of Miami to protect it against Storm Surges.

In the 400 page Study they have released, they explain all the side affects of going through with this project. They expect potential "MAJOR" and "PERMANENT" impacts to be made on existing and thriving Marine Life and Aquatic Vegetation found with in Biscayne Bay.

They plan to make the "Brickell Floodwall" 1 mile long and extend the already existing seawall 50 feet outward and 13 feet higer, ultimately destroying Seagrass beds which act as nurseries and habitats for marine Life such as Sea Turtles, Manatees, Saw Sharks, Fish, Stingrays, and more.

There are plenty of other locations around the world have resorted to Flood prevention in the form of Natural Seawalls made from Oyster beds and Mangrove Tree lines which can buffer out wave and wind action all while creating habitat for marine life.
