Don't take away our temporary swings

Don't take away our temporary swings
The issue
There was a rope swing in Shirley Strickland reserve that was very popular with neighbourhood kids (and some adults re-living their childhoods!) On the 23rd January 2022, it was removed by council rangers after a resident complained about children playing on it. The swing is in heavy use most afternoons and all weekend, encouraging outdoor activity, free play, mild risk-taking, and boosting kids confidence and resilience. It is also a place that brings the community together. The swing comes and goes, is checked regularly for safety, and is not a permanent installation. This petition calls for the City of Melville to refrain from removing community-built temporary play equipment. We support the removal of equipment that poses a significant hazard to the community or impacts negatively on other park users. Other councils in WA have withdrawn similar rules. Please add your postcode when signing so that your vote can be counted by the City of Melville.
