The City of kamloops is closing our westsyde pool for a year to repair the roof. While the roof is in much needed of a repair and we support the closure for the fix, it should not take a year!  

During the year of closure for "repairs" the city will be looking at other options such as making the pool an out door only pool or a permanent closure. The purpose of this petition is raise our voice and let them know none of these options are appropriate. What we need is an expansion! 

What this repair has proven is that the westsyde pool is in much need of a overhaul and upgrade. By investing in a new health and wellness center,  you will be promoting the importance of healthy lifestyles. 

We the people of Westsyde feel that is time the City of Kamloops invested in our diverse and expanding community.  With our neighborhoods expanding, and the  new residential and commercial developments increasing , our population has boomed. 

What we need is a new facility for a community / recreation center with a bigger gym , a indoor year round  pool, along with  community rooms that can be open the the public  for various recreational activities.  A center that is better suited for our growing population. 

Currently  due to the limitations in staffing and cut hours at the westsyde pool already , we already need to drive downtown to the YMYWCA or up to Aberdeen to use the TCC Center. Those are the only 2 other indoor pools.  

Westsyde needs to keep our pool and expand to a new recreation center as almost 40% of Kamloops' entire population resides closer to westsyde Pool than to TCC.

This pool is currently used not only by residents from westsyde but also from anyone on the south shore, including Rayleigh, Mcclure, and the North shore. It is used by all ages and many rely on it! 

The Westsyde Community would greatly benefit from having a new bigger recreation center . We believe it would help improve the quality of life, give our residents more to do year round, especially our youth and seniors. It would keep our residents close to home and create more jobs. 

This recreation center would also benefit our seniors and the residents of the Hammlets as well as the Westsyde neighborhood watch. The watch could expand their youth program at a new facility and continue to give our youth a safe place to go after school and holidays to be active. 

We hope by starting this petition and collecting signatures will help our voices be heard by the City of Kamloops and have our needs met. We want action and answers.
