Traffic Calming Devices added to our Residential Streets

Traffic Calming Devices added to our Residential Streets
The Issue
As a long time resident of the Riverwalk Community in Hutto, myself and my fellow neighbors are requesting that traffic calming devices be added to our residential streets.
Speeding traffic on neighborhood streets affects the safety and quality of residents' lives. Many of us have children that enjoy getting out of the house to play and be with their friends, ride bikes, be active, but it is a constant concern that one day a child, animal or adult will be seriously injured someday. Our current speed limit is 30 mph and although that is the marked limit, it is rarely abided by. I personally have called Hutto PD to patrol the area, which they have done as well as put a radar speed sign out. The presence of the Hutto PD has helped while they were out but the sign did not. Once the officers leave it is back to normal for those that speed. A few months back I caught a guy on the radar, that I was able to record, going 65 mph. All it takes is one kid to run out, one ball to roll into the street, one rabbit to run in front of someone going that fast, they lose control and we would have complete devastation.
We have an elementary school in our neighborhood that small children walk to and from to every day. As parents, we should feel some sort of ease knowing our children won't get struck by a reckless driver not following the traffic laws.
This has been going on for years and nothing has been done to regulate it, I refuse to stand aside and just complain about it, I refuse to watch a child get injured or see death on my street before actions are taken. Our community and the people around us are what makes Hutto the calm, quiet, beautiful place that it is. We don't have any more time to wait and hope and pray that nothing horrendous happens to our loved ones because people can't wait an extra 20 seconds to get to where they are going.
It is time for someone to step up and make a change and help us potentially save lives. It's time for the City of Hutto to implement harsher traffic violations in our neighborhood, get more patrols and do more to protect our community, take pro-active measures before it's too late.
