Rename Calhoun Rd to George Floyd Avenue

The Issue

George Floyd was raised in the historically Black Third Ward of Houston. At the base of the Third Ward runs a road named after John C. Calhoun, Vice President of the Confederacy, and one of the staunchest advocates for slavery in the nation. He is quoted as calling it “crucial to the nation”.

The mere existence and location of this road is a desecration to the community and its inhabitants. It should be renamed in honor of Houston’s own George Floyd, whose tragic death sparked a global movement.
