Stop Hoboken's SantaCon

This petition had 892 supporters

SantaCon has grown into nothing more than a group of (this year about 13 or 14) bars who offer discounted drinks and  significantly over serve them while opening their doors to hundreds of young and reckless drinkers dressed as Santas (or some form of a "Santa".)

Anyone around town can see these groups descend in droves throughout Washington street, in lines wrapped around blocks and generally behaving badly.

The event has grown in popularity and draws in college age students from throughout NJ and NY, with a decreasing number of actual residents from Hoboken participating in "the fun."

Held annually, the event makes it seemingly impossible for residents and families to enjoy the week before Christmas and visit what would otherwise be a festive stretch of town with great shops, restaurants, and bars - for those who like to enjoy responsibly.

By stopping the promotion of SantaCon, petitioning bars to stop participating in the  unsanctioned, non-city sponsored event, and seeking to stop the event from having a home here, we can have our city back and keep SantaCon to NYC, which is much more prepared to handle the crowds and nature of the event.

The Hoboken PD does an excellent job each year of trying to maintain safety and order, but this shouldn't be and doesn't have to be.

According to HPD Police Chief Ken Ferrante's twitter, during 2016's "event" five people were arrested, and 30 summons were issued. This year's totals include at least 17 arrests, 55 ambulance rides, 51 city ordinances and 32 moving violations.

Please consider signing & sharing if you'd like to see this event end. We'll ensure this gets into the right hands of anyone who might be able to help us keep this "event" out of our beloved 'Boken.
