I've reached out to the City of Henderson to get the details on adding a referendum to the ballot so Henderson residents can decide how they feel about TNR instead of being told by bureaucrats what is best for cats.

The person I spoke with said that feral cats spread disease.  They said that feral cats can't be on a regular vaccination schedule.

When a cat goes through the TNR process, vaccinations are included.  Right now, no feral cats in Henderson are vaccinated.  If Henderson is so worried about the spread of disease, it seems like they would want to TNR their ferals. 

The bottom line is that we will have to continue to take action and be a voice for feral cats.  I need at least five Henderson residents to join with me in collecting signatures, on paper, in person.  I think I have an attorney who can review our petition, but if you know any resources in this area, please feel free to share.

This is the best time to get this referendum on the ballot.  We have to get signatures from registered voters in Henderson equal to, or greater than 15% of the voter turnout in the last election.  The voter turnout in the last election was at a record low.  Only about 2,500 signatures are needed.

When I attempted to get more info on the referendum process from the City of Henderson, they had some guy call and talk to me about why they don't allow ferals or free-roaming cats.  He acted like he had all the answers, his opinion was 'right', and I should walk away.  They don't want us to exercise our right to a referendum, because the number of signatures needed is (relatively) low, and they'll be forced to listen to their constituents.  All that tells me is this is the best time to do it!
