Concerned Student 1891 NCATUnited States
Sep 13, 2017
Writers of the #ConcernedStudent1891 letter met with Chancellor Harold Martin Sr., the NCATSU Administrative Cabinet, and NCATSU SGA yesterday to discuss the issues and demands addressed in the letter. Chancellor Harold Martin Sr. agreed to creating a joint letter with SGA and #ConcernedStudent1891, which meets one part of our demands. Chancellor Harold Martin Sr. was not in the room when SGA, #ConcernedStudent1891, and the Administrative Cabinet met to draft this joint document. In addition to his absence, Chancellor Harold Martin Sr. refused to hold a press conference speaking out against unconstitutional racial gerrymandering which impacts NCATSU students’ voting strength, white supremacy, and the rescindment of the current Title IX guidelines. We gave the Administrative Cabinet the opportunity to present the idea of a video from Chancellor Harold Martin declaring opposition to unconstitutional racial gerrymandering, condemning white supremacy, and reiterating the commitment A&T has to a safe campus environment for sexual assault survivors and all students as an alternative to the press conference we initially demanded. We hope that Chancellor Harold Martin Sr. recognizes the importance of his voice, his actions and his words. By 12:00pm today we should have an answer from Chancellor Harold Martin Sr. and the Administrative Cabinet as to whether or not Chancellor Harold Martin Sr. will make these statements through such video.
We appreciate the Administrative Cabinet and SGA for meeting with us and drafting the joint statement that will be released today, but ultimately, we are still waiting for our demands to be met in totality. We are hopeful that yesterday's conversation with the Administrative Cabinet and SGA was the beginning of a new, transparent, and open relationship.
Please continue to share this petition widely and talk about these issues!
