Stop the demolition of the historic Victorian Orwell House on 9th Ave.

Stop the demolition of the historic Victorian Orwell House on 9th Ave.

The Issue

We, a group of Granite Falls residents, are asking the Granite Falls City Council to reconsider their decision to demolish this historic building. The building is to be demolished in spring, however we view this to be valuable tourism and riverfront infrastructure. We believe that re-purposing this home will bring about continuted community benefit as well as the potential for new growth and development.

A proposal to reuse and preserve this property for the community is being drafted right now. This proposal will be presented to the city council along with a list of signatures from individuals who support this effort.

There is a good chance the city council may reverse their decision if there is enough community support for the preservation of this historic house.

It is located on the corner of 9th Ave. and 2nd St., and only a block away from downtown Granite Falls. It is one of the very few houses left that still has a beautiful rap-around porch.

For more information, please visit http://youngruralpreservationist.wordpress.com/  where there are two blog posts about the house - first one has photos and the second has a link to the letter that has been presented to the council.
