Olympic event and whitewater park in Gold Hill

The Issue

As a fellow Gold Hill born and raised resident and homeowner I would like to take the time to express some major concerns some of the local Rogue Valley residents have about the "white water event center" and the potential for the 2028 white water Olympics to be held in Gold Hill Oregon.

As many of us know,  Gold Hill is a very small town with a population of a few thousand. The Beautiful Rogue River winds through our town. There are 4 small entry ways to our town. There is a local resident and a small handful of others that think our tiny town is capable of holding an Olympic event in 2028 and that the disruption to the river would be minimal. According to KOBI 5 Facebook post, Gold Hill is being considered to hold this white water Olympic event, but there would need to be some "modifications" to the Rogue River. As a local resident, I know that this area is too small and, it's natural beauty and wildlife too delicate and cherished by many to hold such an event without completely modifying what we know.

I ask that you do your research about what the an Olympic event could potentially do to this beautiful area and the magnitude of traffic that would need to flow through our town to hold such an event. Please also do your research about the requests that have been made for a permanent white water park, there are maps and plans drawn up along with grants that have been given to aid with modifying the natural sacred ground.

Please Stand with me today and sign this petition to let the community and City of Gold Hill, Jackson County and the Olympics know, how you feel both of these projects, the potential Olympic 2028 and any whitewater recreation area and the damage it could cause to the river, wildlife and surrounding area. We need to pull together to make sure our natural beauty stays untouched and the way it has been for so many years.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
