Traffic calming on SE 4th Avenue

The Issue

Thursday, June 25th our beloved cat was struck and killed by a speeding driver. Since we moved into our home 6 years ago the speed of the drivers on our road at SE 4th avenue has been my biggest fear. Gus's death was my fears confirmed, and further motivates my need for traffic calming strategies on our street. Gus's death is the most recent in a slew of incidents that have occurred on this street, and  while it's by far the most activating, and heartbreaking for me personally, I've observed far too many collisions and accidents for this to go unchecked. My hope is to mitigate the potential for further heartache by creating safer infrastructure around our neighborhood.

We are a unique and diverse neighborhood that supports the foot traffic of not only the folks that call this place home, but also members of our homeless community, guests at the local bed and breakfasts, and neighbors who visit Depot Park. So many would benefit from safer roads, and, I suspect we would find more pleasure in co-mingling outside our own property lines with one another.

It would only help me, and those of us who use this road, if you were to sign this petition asking for a simple four-way stop at SE 4th avenue and 8th street.
