City of Frisco: Get a life-saving traffic light at Grayhawk Blvd. and Eldorado Parkway
The Issue
We, the residents of the Frisco, TX neighborhoods of Grayhawk, Christi Ranch and Northridge have had enough of the extremely dangerous intersection at Grayhawk Boulevard and Eldorado Parkway – after seeing the aftermath of a major accident Thursday night August 4, 2016.
That evening – on the day our son got his driver license – A Chevrolet Tahoe struck a Honda CRV as the Honda was attempting to enter Eldorado Parkway. Frisco Police shut down Eldorado between Grayhawk Blvd. and Hawk Creek for several hours, diverting traffic through the Grayhawk neighborhood. Air bags deployed on the vehicles – as you can see in the photos here.
It is hazardous for us as residents to enter Eldorado from this intersection especially with the increased volume of traffic on Eldorado. Drivers are often driving above the speed limit, (especially if they make the light at Teel and Eldorado or at Eldorado and 423) by the time they reach the Grayhawk/Eldorado intersection.
Turning left (eastbound) from Grayhawk Blvd. to Eldorado is almost impossible, as you have to cross four lanes of a divided highway — unprotected.
Our subdivision is bordered by Teel Parkway, Panther Creek Parkway, FM 423 and Eldorado Parkway (FM 2934).
There is only one intersection leading out of Grayhawk that is protected by a traffic signal: At Grayhawk and Panther Creek (installed after many resident complaints and a long feasability study). This is a major corridor for traffic to Stafford Middle School, BF Phillips Elementary and Lone Star High School from our side of Panther Creek. Several accidents over the course of several months led to the installation of a signal there.
Two Grayhawk streets intersect with Eldorado, a major and minor street. One, Hawk Creek, has a left turn lane to it eastbound from Eldorado, but it is nearly impossible to turn into Hawk Creek during rush hour, and it is especially hazardous attempting to turn with cars passing east and westbound at 45 mph or greater.
We understand that Eldorado is a state Farm-to-Market Road, and Title 7, Section 542.203 of the Texas Transportation Code limits what the City of Frisco can do, as the code states below:
"A local authority may not erect or maintain a traffic-control device to direct the traffic on a state highway, including a farm-to-market or ranch-to-market road, to stop or yield before entering or crossing an intersecting highway unless permitted by agreement between the local authority and the Texas Department of Transportation”
The statue states, however, that the “local authority” and TxDOT can enter an “agreement” to erect a signal.
To our City of Frisco leaders and Mr. Moen: At what point does Frisco push TxDOT for this change?
West Frisco is growing fast, and the volume of traffic over here is growing rapidly, too.
A traffic light is absolutely needed at this intersection.
It is dangerous.
A traffic signal there would provide for protected entry onto Eldorado, and also act as a speed deterrent. A traffic light at the intersection would also relieve clogging at the Teel/ Eldorado light, as many from Grayhawk and Christie Ranch seek this intersection as the only protected intersection with Eldorado in our area.
Please act now to help us prevent future loss of life or injury.
