Petition updateSave Edinburgh’s Greenbelt at Brunstane from DevelopmentNew Petition to Save Burnstane Farmlands Greenbelt, Edinburgh
Save Brunstane GreenbeltEdinburgh, SCT, United Kingdom
Jan 28, 2016
Thanks once again for, last year, signing our petition to save Brunstane Farmlands greenbelt from development. We are asking for your further support in stopping the development of Brunstane Farmlands Greenbelt Site. In May 2015 the City of Edinburgh Council approved a local development plan that included the building of thousands of houses on the last remaining area of greenbelt between Edinburgh and Musselburgh - Brunstane Farmlands . The local development plan (LDP), including the inclusion of the Brunstane Farmlands site, is still to be finally approved by the Scottish Government Planning Reporter. Even before the Reporter has made their decision on the LDP and whether Brunstane Farmlands should form part of this, Edinburgh Council's "arm's length" development company - EDI Group Ltd - which owns the site, has submitted a Proposal of Application (PAN) which is the initial stage in obtaining detailed permission to build on the site. If approved, the development would result in extensive impacts on the environment in the area, and on the infrastructure of Portobello, Musselburgh, and the wider southeast Edinburgh / East Lothian areas. With planning approval, EDI Group Ltd would be able to sell on the site, meaning they and the City of Edinburgh Council which owns the company will make £millions in profit. The Proposal of Application is now out for consultation. If you object to the loss of greenbelt, increased traffic, overwhelmed health and school provision, and significant environmental impacts that this development would produce, you can easily object by taking a couple of minutes to sign our new online petition, which will email the developer and councillors to let them know why building on Brunstane Farmlands will have such a negative effect on the communities and environment in southeast Edinburgh and East Lothian. The link to the petition is http://bit.ly/SBGB08 If you support our petition, please also share this with your family and friends - particularly via Facebook, Twitter and other social media - so we can gather as much opposition to this totally inappropriate development as possible. Thank you for your support, and watch this space for further updates on the latest phase of our campaign!
