Save Legion Pool

The Issue

On February 17, 2017, the De Pere Board of Park Commissioners voted to close Legion Pool and build a new aquatic center at VFW Park on the city’s West side.

Legion Pool is to be replaced with a splash pad. While a splash pad is great for younger children, the closing of Legion Pool leaves a tremendous void in our community. Many children and families spend their summers walking & biking to this pool for affordable, wholesome fun.

Concerned parents feel that asking kids to travel across town, through a roundabout and over a bridge, to access the city’s only pool is simply unsafe. Maintaining neighborhood pools in both East and West De Pere - making them accessible to all children - is clearly the best option for our community.

City officials did conduct a survey about a new aquatic center and pool locations. Many respondents agreed that an East side pool should not be eliminated. Results are available here: https://www.de-pere.org/egov/documents/1463767800_42916.pdf

Please sign and circulate this petition and attend the upcoming public forum regarding the Legion Pool closure: Thursday, December 14th at 7:15 p.m. at the De Pere Community Center, lower level.

Let’s gather together to save this treasured cornerstone in our community – Legion Pool!
