Better Treatment of Animals

Better Treatment of Animals
The Issue
Animal abuse and neglect are on the rise in much of the nation but it is also on the rise in our neighborhoods and backyards. Animals have no voice and we need to speak up for these innocent animals that have been left behind. We see animal abuse on a daily basis and its time to put a stop to it. We need to demand new laws that protect our pets and treat those who are victims to abuse and neglect better. We need to see changes at both a local and state level. We have dozens of social media sites ran by volunteers but they can only do so much. Let their voices be heard by our actions.
I got an email confirmation from the city of Dayton on their policy of deposing of deceased animals. They simply dump the deceased animals to Stony Hollow Landfill. I asked if they scanned them for a chip to try and reunite the deceased animal with their owners and they said no, "it just isn't possible". No further explanation. This is one of the things that needs to be changed. They could take an extra minute and scan the animals but instead they are just dumped. This something we can ask to be changed. We can ask that each truck it equipped with a scanner or at the very least have a post where all truck stop at the end of their shift and scan the deceased animals. These are peoples pet and they least we can do is see that the families get the closure they need and the animals have a proper burial. This is a small change that could bring many bigger changes.
