We, the undersigned urge the leaders in the City of Clifton to reconsider the current policies and procedures for cutting down trees in Clifton. Too often the City's decision to cut down a tree is premature and arbitrary. All options to protect and save living trees from destruction should be implemented before removing trees along neighborhood sidewalks. At stake is the irreversible harm to the character and natural appearance of the city. One of the things that attracts people to purchase a home are the tree lined streets. Preserving the beauty that trees provide for our neighborhoods must be a priority. As homeowners, residents and taxpayers of this great city, we should have a voice in what transpires in the immediate vicinity of our homes. City notifications to homeowners about actions like tree removals that greatly affect the quality of their lives and neighborhoods must be standard procedure. We request that the decisions surrounding cutting down trees under the guise of liability be amended to include input from homeowners and neighborhood residents that will be affected, and alternatives that could save neighborhood trees be implemented.
