Defend Chicago's Own Chance The Rapper: Boycott the Chicago Sun-Times

This petition had 2,132 supporters

Chance The Rapper continues to be a Champion of the City of Chicago. While many continue to socially and economically divest, Chance invests in the City that he loves. From his million dollar investment in Chicago Public Schools to his events sending city kids on field trips, combating gun violence, and leading residents to vote, Chance embodies hope!

While so many want to portray Chicago as nothing more than a city of carnage, Chance proclaimed,  “There’s no other place on earth where you can go to a centralized space and see thirteen-, fourteen-, fifteen-, sixteen-, seventeen-, and eighteen-year-olds who want to conquer art and music”

Yet despite his efforts, Mary Mitchell, a columnist for Chance's hometown paper the Chicago Sun-Times, penned an op-ed entitled, 'Child-support spat could hurt Chance the Rapper’s image,' in a clear effort to defame Chance'a character after he took the Governor to task for choosing political self interest over Chicago's children.

I believe we as the people have grown tired of newspapers running nonstories and alternative facts that reek of political influence in attempts to uplift those who could care less about our city, while knocking down our true champions.

I am calling on Chicago to send a clear message to the Sun-Times that such tactics will not be accepted. Chicago is taking a stand for Chance, like he has taken a stand for the city.

We demand that the Sun-Times retracts Mary Mitchell'a baseless article and that Mary Mitchell pen a public apology letter to Chance. Until that time, I ask Chicago to launch the #nochanceforsuntimes campaign, boycotting purchasing Sun-Time's publications and visiting Sun-Time's website, removing all support until demands are met!
