Save Alzheimer’s Society Day Support Service at Oldwell Court, Cardiff

Save Alzheimer’s Society Day Support Service at Oldwell Court, Cardiff
The Issue
Alzheimer's Society Day Support Service at Oldwell Court in Cardiff supports a total of 65 people with moderate to severe symptoms of dementia. Each day we open our doors to 21 families affected by dementia and offer a safe, stimulating, caring environment.
This service not only offers vital respite for Carers but gives people with dementia opportunities to undertake activities which are designed especially for people with cognitive impairment whilst always catering for the individual themselves.
Cardiff Council currently fund this vital service but through their Day Opportunities Strategy are proposing to withdraw this funding and relocate our service users to a council run operation in the West of the City. We are asking for your support to protect this service.
Services for people affected by dementia need further investment and not disinvestment. Please help us to persuade the council that their proposals simply cannot and will not meet the growing demand for dementia services across the city by signing this petition.
PS With local authorities being squeezed by poor funding settlements, we are likely to see more services like those at Oldwell Court being threatened with closure. It's one of the #45000reasons Wales needs a dementia strategy – if you haven't already, please sign our petition calling on the Welsh Government to commit to a National Dementia Strategy for Wales, you can find it here: http://www.alzheimers.org.uk/Wales2016
