City of Canada Bay has proposed to replace the off-leash dog park (image of proposal) with an additional basketball half-court at Mill Park with no consultation to the neighbours.

Problem:

• Reduces the minimal green space available for Rhodes.
• Replaces 1 (of 2) of the off leash areas in Rhodes West. 
• No solution to significant disruption (traffic, noise) to nearby residents.
• No opportunity for live proposal presentation and community consultation, only provided a website over the Christmas break with no responses to emails from the residents.
• No need as multiple full size courts are being built 2 blocks away in the community centre. (image of proposal)
• Relocating the off-leash dog area to the open area next to will provide disruption to people using that area.  Would move dogs to high traffic (people/cars) area and be a risk to the community and the animals.
• Will disrupt the Bush Turkey protected area located at this site.

Request:

• Council to reconsider replacing the green area with concrete.
• Provide active consultation with residents of Rhodes and close affected residents/owners of Mill Park Street.
