City of Burlington: Save the Apple Trees - Perkin's Estate

The Apple Trees - Perkin's Estate is located in Perkins Park. Built by Charles Elliott Perkins, it was once a 39 room mansion. When the city purchased the land from the Perkins family in the early 1900’s the majority of the house was torn down to make room for the park, but demolition was halted and a portion of the house remained. This portion was built in 1899. The building has been empty since 2006 when the Des Moines County Historical Society moved down to the old library. The fate of the building is now in the hands of the city council. Bids recently went out to see how much it would cost for demolition and the city is exploring this option. The city will vote on its fate in an upcoming meeting. Please show the city you support the Apple Trees Museum, the history that it stands for and the future of the City of Burlington. Thanks you for time.
